Taiwanese residency
« on: September 30, 2018, 02:01:16 AM »
Am spending some time in Taiwan with the family in the next chapter of our digital nomad life.  However am finding that having a residency number here would make life easier.  I have a Taiwanese passport but not ID card..has anyone had a similar situation and tried to get residency?  was it painful?

Sorry, I don't follow

If you are a Taiwan citizen, just show up

nah there's a whole category of people who aren't citizens (born abroad, didn't get residency in taiwan before a certain age).  You have to apply for residency outside of Taiwan, nothing can be done inside Taiwan.  So actually just showing up was the problem...

Curious if you've figured this out at all? I'm an American-born Taiwanese. Both my parents are Taiwanese citizens. I don't have a Taiwan passport (my parents gave it up), and I've never lived in Taiwan long-term. However, I'm interested in getting citizenship/residency there if the path isn't too difficult. I'm leaving corporate life at the end of this year and planning to take the family to Taiwan for 2020 (3 months? 6 months? a year? depends on how my partner fares). From a cursory look online, it looks like if you have parents who are Taiwan citizens, and you live there for one year, then it's possible to get citizenship/residency.

I don't have an answer, but I came across this awhile ago

I don't understand the situation in the original post where you have a Taiwan passport but not citizenship.
