Foreign Address

When I have read the fine print, many credit cards require residence in the US for approval of application. We live, work, pay taxes in Japan. We also have a permanent US address. How do you manage this? Thanks!

Hi! As GCC says you can just use the USA address. You also might want a US or international bank account that allows you to easily pay the credit card bills. If you don't have a US bank account you could use something like Transferwise.
I'm jumping in to this old question only bc I too live abroad and use USA credit cards. And sometimes it is a hassle. Here are the things that can be a problem:
- the credit card expires or they just send you a new one randomly bc of fraud protection. You need someone to mail it to you.
- if you apply for a US credit card online and your IP address is elsewhere you may be flagged and have to send in additional documents or just be denied
- you do need a US mailing address, but you said you have one so that is great!
- make sure you pick credit cards without foreign transaction fees!
- you may get blocked a lot by fraud protection if you use the card in different countries

I just had a card expire. They mailed the new card to my Traveling Mailbox address, and then I paid ~$4 for TM to mail it to us.

For a lot of cards I never even receive the physical card and just use Apple Pay or use it online only.

Hey GCC,
If you never get the physical card, how do you activate it? We are currently home free nomads and I'm ready for a new card and am trying to work out all the steps to get my hands on the card while over seas and moving every 7-10 days. Thx!

With a scanned image of the front and back of the card you have all of the info you need... card #, expiration date, 3-digit security code
