Betterment affiliate link?
« on: February 13, 2018, 09:54:48 AM »
I don't get it.
I just read your slam of Betterment, but at the tailend you say you have accepted an affiliate link from.... Betterment.
Why? or how does that work?
If you are just taking free money despite slagging their service, I guess I can understand that.
But then why would Betterment want to sponsor someone who knocks down their service? (and who in their right mind would visit Betterment from your site, after reading your assessment?

We aren't their target customer. I outlined at the end of that post who might be a good fit for their service.

Maybe after reading my thoughts a few people would conclude that they prefer to outsource their portfolio. From the comments you can see a few of these.

Betterment was interesting to me when I very first got in to investing, but now about 3-4 years later I'm glad I didn't put in more than I did and plan on moving it over to Vanguard.

It was better than simply keeping the money in the bank, but their performance has not been worth the extra fees they charge no matter how small compared to personally managed funds.

It's great for people who have 0 interest in spending time investigating investing, but anyone willing to spend a few hours reading up on it and a an hour or two managing it yearly could do better by using Vanguard. I would still recommend Betterment over an actual advisor if you don't want to do anything and still want decent returns.
