Which investments to sell when you need money
« on: March 04, 2018, 12:53:05 AM »
I started investing some of my savings using the allocation you have. Now my question is: When you need money, which investments would you sell? The ones that are making money or the ones that are losing money? Based on your allocation, is there a standard order you would sell in if they were all making money?

I wrote a bit about how we manage our cash flow here:

I generally try to do capital gain harvesting, portfolio rebalancing, and cash buffer top ups in December. Since I have to sell (and buy) some funds to rebalance, I just plan the cash withdrawals as part of that.

In effect, that means the cash is coming from whatever fund has grown in value the most that year.
